Customers blooming for flower shop around Valentine's Day

Flowers and candy are your best bets for Valentine's day gifts.

JACKSON TWP.: With Valentine's Day just around the corner, many local flower shops are seeing an increase in sales this week.

"We have been busy and anticipate a lot of business this week, especially on Thursday," said Kay Alhadid, owner of Botanica Florist in Jackson Township.

"Flowers for your sweetheart is always a great gift and will remain a classic," said Alhadid.

The Botanica Florist Shop opened on Nov. 1, 2010 and has steadily grown over the last 2 years. The shop is located at 4601 Fulton Drive N.W., Suite D in Jackson Township.

"I'm lucky to be in a great location," said Alhadid.

According to www.nbcnews.com, Americans are planning on spending an average of $36.77 on flowers, which is a decrease from last year. The average spent on flowers in 2012 was $37.44.

When it comes to flower arrangements, there are some new trends and classic traditions. The most popular flowers for Valentine's Day are tulips, lilies, gerbera daisies and of course, roses.

"Red roses are the most popular and always will be, they are a classic," said Alhadid.

Botanica Florist shop offers the customers the option to purchase flowers in person, but also by calling in or ordering online.

"Our busiest day will be the actual Valentine's Day. This is when people start to panic and have to get something quick," she says.
