JACKSON TWP.: Tuesday's Board of Trustees meeting was filled with family and friends of two firefighters who were officially sworn in as captains for the Jackson Township Fire Department.
Frank Schneider and Steve McKinney will fill the two positions that were held by firefighters who have retired. They begin their duties on Saturday.
Both positions are full time with a 12-month probationary period. Chief Tracy Hogue officially swore in the two fire fighters saying, "I'm very proud of these gentlemen."
Schneider and McKinney were selected from a field of 12 applicants.
There were many handshakes and congratulatory applauses as the two men accepted their badges and posed for pictures. Most of the fire department personnel were on hand to watch the swearing in of the new captains.
The fire department continues to be busy. According to the spring newsletter, the department handled 5,403 incidents during 2012.
