Jackson Township Parks Department accepts donations for annual Community Celebration

The 2013 Community Celebration will be held at Jackson's North Park.

JACKSON TWP: With the failure of Issue 29 creating financial difficulties for the parks department, donations are needed to fund community events. The annual Community Celebration is one such event that cannot happen without financial assistance.

At the trustees meeting Tuesday, several companies and organizations donated money to help ensure the celebration will continue.

"This is always a popular event and it would be ashamed if it couldn't happen," said trustee President James Walters.

The board accepted donations from the following businesses:

  • $500 from DeHoff Development Company
  • $100 from Hammontree & Associates Ltd.
  • $500 from Jackson-Belden Chamber of Commerce
  • $250 from Redmond's Parts & Supply Inc.
  • $100 from Southway Fence Company
  • $250 from Terry's Truck and Trailer Inc.

The money donated by these companies will certainly help fund the community celebration, which usually runs for three days in early summer. The North Park event features rides, food concessions, a car show, a basketball tournament and music performances. Fireworks are held on Saturday night during the celebration.

This year, more than 50,000 people visited the event over the three days. More information will be released as the celebration committee continues to plan the 2013 event.
