Trustees issue parks adjustments as a result of levy failure
The Jackson Township Board of Trustees has approved the following actions as a result of the Parks and Highway levy, which failed in the election on Nov. 6.
All Jackson parks will open at dawn and close at dusk with no lighting on the walking path at North Park.
The Fulton Road yard waste drop off site will change its hours of operation to 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday through Friday. This change will take effect on Tuesday. The board will also re-evaluate personnel costs and all costs associated with the parks and road divisions.
During the Board of Trustees meeting last Tuesday, President James Walters stated that the board has listened to the voters and will plan accordingly.
"The township spoke clearly and let us know that they didn't want this," James said. " We need to figure out what we are going to do now that we are in a $3 million hole and we need to move forward.”
Three years ago, the trustees started a cost-cutting process that saved more than $1 million. They will continue to reorganize and consolidate certain departments in the township.
