The city of Massillon will host the 14th annual summer concert series beginning Thursday. The concert series is funded by donations and money collected by concert goers when the hat is passed around during the event.
Massillon Mayor Kathy Catazaro-Perry said that the concerts are a financial benefit to the city and gives a financial boost to downtown businesses and restaurants. The music benefits the public and enables residents to enjoy the summer evenings downtown.
Seven music concerts will be held during the summer on Thursday nights. The bands that are scheduled have roots to the Massillon area and concert goers will be familiar with the local acts. Between 1,000 and 3,000 audience members are expected to attend the Thursday night concerts.
Massillon also hosts a Monday night concert series at Duncan Plaza. The Thursday night concerts are held at Lincoln Way East and First Street. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. These concerts draw between 100 and 300 people.Refreshments will be served at the concerts provided by the Massillon Choir boosters and the Lincoln Lions Theatre.
