JACKSON TWP.: The Microtel Inn and Suites reopened on Friday after closing for nearly a full year because of a mulch fire.
The fire started in a mulch bed on the north side of the building and caused $2.2 million in damage. It took 40 to 45 minutes to control the fire thanks to firefighters from Jackson Township, North Canton, Green, Greentown and Plain Townships.
"We had a lot of water and smoke damage due to the fire,” said front desk assistant Donna Worstall. “The damage was mostly on the north side but the whole place needed repair."
Worstall who has worked for Microtel for eight years says that the pool will open soon and that they are planning to add more luxury items to the hotel, including outside tables and barbeque facilities.
"We are a work in progress but at least we are opened again and 10 times better than we were before," Worstall said.
Also apart of the renovation was redecorating the rooms, upgrading the grounds and serving breakfast daily.
Microtel is located at 7046 Sunset Strip in Jackson Township. The staff can be reached at 330-966-7551.
