New Year's Eve "A Touch of Magic" event supports good cause

By Donna Rovan/Ohio.com correspondent Published: December 30, 2012

The Belden Village Courtyard by Marriott will hold "A Touch of Magic" from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Monday. The night will include dinner, drinks, dancing and entertainment and will benefit the Wishes Can Happen Foundation in Stark County.

"We are looking to grant the wishes of two Stark County children in need," said Desaree Collett, party hostess.

The Wishes Can Happen Foundation grants the wishes of children living with a life-threatening condition. The foundation was started in 1982 and has granted the wishes of over 1,000 children in Stark County.

According to the foundation’s website, the average cost of granting one wish is $4,700. The foundation depends on donor support.

Children ages 3 to 21 are served by the foundation. Every child's wish is granted as long as it is deemed safe by their physician. The most popular wish continues to be a trip to Disney World, but some children ask for computer equipment, shopping sprees and bedroom remodeling.

The "A Touch of Magic" event will include a prize wheel, 50/50 raffle and a silent auction.

"100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Wishes Can Happen Foundation," said Collett.

The cost to attend the event is $80 per person or $150 per couple. Belden Village Courtyard by Marriott is located at 4375 Metro Circle N.W. in Canton.
