Paul and Carol David YMCA outgrows space

The Paul and Carol David YMCA opened in October of 2006 and has already outgrown its 44,000 square-foot building. After doing studies and surveying members, Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA of Central Stark County Tim Shetzer says there needs to be more space, more services and more programs.

The Jackson YMCA has 9,000 members and is the second most used YMCA in Stark County. Plans for expansion include a 4,840 square-foot addition to the exercise studio, 3,100 square-feet added to the wellness center and more square footage added to the childcare space. There will also be additions to storage spaces and conference rooms.

The YMCA is working with the Stark County Port Authority on a bond-financing project that will pay for the construction. Stark County commissioners will meet next week to consider adopting the bond.
