When the last turkey leg has been served and the final piece of pumpkin pie has disappeared, most people will begin to think about their shopping list for the holidays.

Black Friday officially starts the busy gift-buying season and, according to American Express, the weekend after Thanksgiving is the busiest shopping weekend of the year.

With that in mind, American Express is once again sponsoring Small Business Saturday this weekend.  Started in 2010, this is a day to support small businesses in the community.  American Express.com states that last year, 100 million people shopped at small businesses, and they hope that more shoppers will support their local businesses this year.

Jackson Township offers several retail options including the Strip and Westfield Mall, but the Jackson Belden Chamber of Commerce is reminding consumers to shop local and visit small businesses this Saturday.  They said by shopping or dining in small businesses, residents are supporting local jobs and helping the community.

American Express along with the National Federation of Independent Businesses states that 46 percent of small businesses in the United States will participate in Small Business Saturday.

Participating businesses in the Jackson Township area include Bob & Pete's Floors, Rolando's Restaurant, and Dutch Girl Cleaners.  For a full list of all participating businesses in the Jackson Township area, please visit www.americanexpress.com.
